According to Foucault, the modern penal system works to monitor the deviants or delinquents that were produced by the very same social structure. In a line of thought that challenges Marxism and the concept of ‘total’ ideology, Foucault refutes the idea of revolutionary change of sociopolitical structures, but rather provides a detailed anatomy of power relations and discourse.
